Welcome

I'm Phil, a Cardiff-based freelance pianist, teacher, accompanist, ensemble musician, arranger, composer, and patchwork professional musician.

Principally, I offer tailored, one-to-one lessons to suit aspiring pianists at various stages of learning, from complete beginner to grade 8 and diploma standard, and those learning simply for the sake of enjoyment (not to mention all the stages in-between!). I seek to provide a relaxed atmosphere for learning with graded exams as an option, but not as the sole purpose of the lessons. Ultimately, I aim to respond to the personality of each player and complement it by developing a secure musical and technical foundation. In addition, I also teach music theory up to grade 5 level and ABRSM aural up to grade 8 standard.

I am also available as an experienced accompanist and rehearsal pianist for graded exams, auditions, recordings, and other rehearsals. I currently work as accompanist and répétiteur to Welsh National Youth Opera, the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Live Music Now Cymru, Llandaff Cathedral Choral Society, Gabalfa Community Choir, Music in Hospitals and Care, and Arts Active.

As a music practitioner and creative I also compose, arrange, and create various musical soundscapes for use in a variety of settings: compositions  and arrangements for performance and events, and lengthy, gentle soundscapes for use in SEN settings, or simply for relaxation and study.
